Javier Hernandez is the director of investments for The California Wellness Foundation. In this role, he manages the foundation’s endowment, focusing on developing and executing a mission-related investment strategy.
Hernandez joins the foundation from Avivar Capital where he served as a director advising leaders of some of the country’s largest foundations, family offices, and health systems on how to deploy investment dollars with impact. With a background in impact investing, portfolio design and implementation, and environmental management, he has also held roles at Houlihan Lokey and Pacific Advanced Civil Engineering.
Before joining Cal Wellness in 2024, Hernandez supported Cal Wellness’ Program-Related Investments committee as a trusted partner at Avivar for five years, sourcing and completing due diligence on loans and equity investments.
Hernandez received an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BS in Water Resources Engineering from Universidad Nacional Del Litoral in Argentina. He is based in Cal Wellness’ Los Angeles office.
