It’s with a mixture of gratitude, pride and sadness that we announce that Fatima Angeles, our Vice President of Programs, will be leaving Cal Wellness at the end of July to become the next executive director of the Levi Strauss Foundation. LSF is a highly respected corporate foundation that seeks to advance the human rights and well-being of underserved people in the places where the company does business. LSF is a global foundation, and Fatima will oversee the global philanthropic strategy for one of the most iconic brands in the world.
Since 1998, Fatima has been a key contributor to advancing Cal Wellness’ mission. She has been part of many of the major accomplishments in our work over the past 23 years. Fatima joined the foundation as a program officer, advancing to become a program director, director of evaluation and organizational learning, and, in 2013, our vice president of programs. As a grantmaker, Fatima developed and implemented programs focused on worker health, environmental justice, and youth development. As vice president, Fatima has built and led a team of smart, passionate people responsible for $40 million in grantmaking annually, helped launch our Program-Related Investments program, and established the Hope and Heal Fund, now a leader in reducing gun violence in California.
"We'll miss Fatima at Cal Wellness, but I know she's going to love leading the Levi Strauss Foundation as much as I did," said Judy Belk, Cal Wellness president and CEO. "They have a true legacy of social justice that will continue under Fatima's leadership. And she'll get to wear her favorite Levi's to work!"
We are grateful to Fatima for her many years of service to Cal Wellness, and we look forward to her continued leadership in philanthropy.
